Arnaud Gerniers chez Charles de Jonghe
Charles de Jonghe / Rue du mail, 21 / 1050 Brussels
13/01/2011 - 26/02/2011
In various parts of the world, Arnaud seeks places devoid of human presence, voids to distant horizons, places of silence … First it is the sea that attracts him, then other types of landscapes. Once the location is determined, Arnaud places a rectangular frame covered in phosphorescent paint. This type of paint absorbs sunlight and rejects it overnight. The framework becomes the single light source, giving presence to the absence.
The light frame’s function is poetic, he blurs the landscape’s scale, in the same photograph but also between multiple images. The artist works on the ”nothingness”, the absence.
